With graduation right around the corner, my mind has shifted to all things summer. It’s been a weird couple of weeks after classes ended because my schedule has been all over the place; I haven’t been able to establish a routine. Guys, I am a creature of habit and am craving a more consistent schedule. With that in mind I’m looking ahead to this summer, where I’ll be working, which will hopefully put my days on a more productive track.
Like in past years, I will be spending my weekdays teaching tennis! I have a job both with my town and with my tennis club as an instructor, so I’m expecting to be working between 2-9 hours a day M-F. While no job is ever always “fun”, I must say I’m pretty lucky to get to make money doing something outside, working with kids. Because I decided not to play tennis next year at Holy Cross, I won’t be taking any of my own lessons this summer, so it’ll be nice to still spend some time on the court teaching the game for the fun of it.
What I’m most excited about for this summer vacation is the trips. I’ll be going to Mexico for 6 days with my long-term boyfriend, a little adventure to test our relationship before the rigor of college. We are staying at a beautiful resort in Cancun and I’m so thrilled to be able to end our high school career on a high note.
I’m also spending one week at Camp Sunshine as a volunteer, working one on one with a camper. The camp is designed as a retreat for children with life-threatening illnesses, so I know the trip will be a heart-wrenching one, but I’m blessed to have the opportunity to give back in such a meaningful way.
Other fun things on my radar this summer include a family reunion, day trips around MA, a going away gathering with friends, and tons of obstacle course races. Nearly every Saturday through the summer is booked with something exciting!
It is such a relief to be away from the heavy summer work load of high school. I have one summer reading book for Holy Cross, which should just be a light beach read- it looks so good I’m not even viewing it as a chore. I hope to fill this summer with all things college prep, while also fitting in plenty of spontaneous adventures with my best friends before we all part ways this fall. Last summer was my favorite yet, let’s see if 2017 can compare!
Any fun summer plans on the books?
